CAIRO- 14 April: U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the “barbaric attack” that targeted two Egyptian churches last week, leaving at least 45 dead, during his weekly address Friday.

In a video shared on the White House’s

official Facebook page

, Trump offered wishes and greetings to Americans celebrating Easter and Passover, calling the U.S. a “nation of believers.”

Trump described the threat of terror as “one of the gravest threats to religious freedom," citing Egypt’s deadly bombing attacks on Sunday, which were carried out by the Islamic State (IS) group targeting churches in Tanta and Alexandria cities.

“We condemn this barbaric attack, we mourn for those who lost love ones and we pray for the strength and wisdom to achieve a better tomorrow when good people of all faiths: Christians, Muslims and Jewish and Hindu, can follow their hearts and worship according to their conscience,” he continued.

On Twitter, following the attacks, Trump strongly denounced the deadly terrorist attacks, saying he is confident President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi “will handle the situation properly.” The attacks were condemned worldwide.

In the first week of April, Trump met with President Sisi at the White House, where they agreed on bilateral cooperation on fighting terrorism. “We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt,” Trump said, adding that President Sisi has “done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation.”
