CAIRO - 7 January 2018: “Egypt needs a strong political leadership to continue building a modern state on the Egyptian soil,” First Deputy of the Parliament Speaker el-Sayed el-Sherif told Egypt Today, announcing his support to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi if he run for the second term.
Sherif argued that Sisi will be the best choice for the country in the upcoming period, saying “Sisi enjoys a powerful political leadership needed for the required reforms. Popular campaigns have been formed as a result of the people’s will to elect Sisi for another term,” Sherif told Egypt Today on Sunday.
He stressed that President Sisi has run the country firmly and wisely, adding, “Sisi has developed the infrastructure and boosted economic reforms.”
“Many national projects have been successfully carried out in a short time such as building bridges, the new city of Al-Alameen and the new Suez Canal...This is a miracle for Egypt,” he stated.
Various popular campaigns have been organized demanding Sisi to run for another term in office. Parliamentarians, politicians and celebrities joined campaigns like "To Build It".
A hashtag was initiated in October 2017 by the official Twitter account of “Alashan Tbneeha” (To Build It) campaign, @presidentEgyptt; namely #صوتنا_للسيسي ( Our vote for Sisi). It appeared on Twitter’s trends with more than 73,600 tweets and 68,500 re-tweets in only one day according to Trendsmap - Analytics.

To Build It is the public campaign that kicked off in September 2017 to demand that President Sisi runs for a second term as President of Egypt. It witnessed a remarkable turnout from citizens and renowned figures of the Egyptian society as the signatures phase of the campaign was launched.
The main aim of the campaign is to gather signatures on a petition that demands a second inauguration of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi as President of Egypt.
“The campaign collected 12,132,460 valid signatures, while a total of 239,361 signed forms were null and void,” announced one of the campaign’s founders, Mohamed al-Garhy.
“The campaign’s goal is to secure and protect our homeland so it demands that President Sisi runs for the upcoming presidential elections as a second term,” read the first press statement released by the To Build It campaign.
In December, #My_Vote_For_Sisi_2018, a hashtag that appeared on Twitter’s trending section with thousands of interactions and re-tweets in support of President Sisi’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections.
Incumbent President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is the sixth president of Egypt. He came to office in June 2014 after the June 30 Revolution, which toppled former President Mohamed Morsi, who is affiliated with the now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
