CAIRO – 6 January 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has attended the Coptic Christmas Mass at the Cathedral of the New Administrative Capital on Saturday.

He wished the Copts merry Christmas and congratulated them on the inauguration of the Cathedral in the under-construction capital, 45 kilometers east of Cairo.

“The inauguration of the cathedral is a message for the whole world. A message of peace and love…We present a model of peace and love,” he addressed the attendants.

“Evil, havoc, ruins and murder will never defeat good. Nobody can divide us,” he continued, adding that he did want to speak about pains that Egypt suffered from terrorism targeted Egyptians Muslims and Christians.

President Sisi attended the Coptic Christmas Mass over the past two years.

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark’s Diocese led the mass, which is attended by the ministers and dignitaries, amid highly security measures.

The General Directorate of Traffic have deployed more troops to secure the highways and roads leading to the under-contraction administrative Capital.

Coptic Orthodox Christians, who represent approximately 90 percent of Egypt’s Christians, break their 43-day fast and celebrate Christmas on 7 January based on the Coptic calendar.
