CAIRO – 5 January 2017: Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, revealed his happiness after winning the CAF African Player of the Year award on Thursday night in the CAF ceremony held in Accra, Ghana.
Salah posted a photo with the award and commented: “One of many dreams came true last night... Thank you everyone!”
Salah won the award after a competition with Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Mohamed Salah is the second Egyptian player to win this award after Mahmoud El-Khatib, who won the title in 1983.
Salah had a fantastic year with AS Roma, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists to lead the club to finish second in the league and qualify to the UEFA Champions League.
Salah left Roma to join Liverpool. The player shined in the Premier League, scoring in total 22 goals for the team.
Salah also led Egypt’s national team to the 2018 World Cup after a 28-year absence. He scored 5 out of 7 goals in the qualifiers.
