CAIRO – 12 April 2017: Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, along with his sons Alaa and Gamal and 19 of his henchmen are to be transferred to the Public Fund Prosecution over the “Ahram gifts” lawsuit.

Earlier in March, Cairo’s Criminal Court accepted the appeal by the Prosecutor to re-open investigations into "Ahram gifts" case, in which the defendants face accusations over illegally receiving gifts from the state-owned Al-Ahram organization.

Sources close to the former presidential family said that the gifts were received with "good intentions" and f no evidence found about the defendants receiving the gifts.

They also were reported as saying that some of the defendants have already reimbursed the state in return for reconciliation, adding that Mubarak’s legal team is working hard to finalize this case, which is the only pending case now Mubarak has following his acquittal from two other legal charges.

On March 2nd, Egypt’s top appeals court issued a final verdict acquitting Mubarak of charges of collusion to kill protesters during the January 25th Revolution in 2011 that ultimately toppled him from power after three decades.

Similarly, the former president, along with his two sons, already served a term of three years in prison over charges of Presidential Palaces embezzlement and wasting public money in 2016.
