A militant was killed before storming a church in Helwan, southern Cairo- a screenshot from a video
CAIRO - 29 December 2017: Two policemen were killed after two militants opened fire in an attempt to storm a church in Helwan city, southern Cairo on Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior said in media remarks.
One of the militant was fatally shot by the police guarding the Church of Great Martyr Mina in Helwan, while the second one managed to escape.
The security forces defused an explosive belt that was fasten around the killed militant's chest.
The attack attempt was thwarted amid high security measures taken by the Ministry of Interior nationwide ahead of Christmas celebrations in Egypt.
