Egypt has declared state of emergency for three months, following deadly attacks that targeted two churches in Tanta and Alexandria on Palm Sunday.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi made the announcement after a meeting with National Defence Council meeting.

Sisi announced the decisions of the council, including "declaring state of emergency for three months until restoring security," directing the state security apparatus to intensity its efforts to catch the perpetrators of the Palm Sunday terrorist attacks and establishing the higher council for fighting terrorism.

"Today we are paying the price of defeating terrorism, we will continue building the country and face all challenges united," Sisi said.

The president also urged the media to ensure accuracy in covering terrorist attacks, and adopt a new discourse that unites all Egyptians to face the current challenges.
