CAIRO - 25 December 2017: Egypt's Dar al-Ifta stressed on Monday that greeting non-Muslims over their religious holidays is permissible under Islamic Sharia.
Al-Ifta was responding to many fatwas issued by extremists that prohibit greeting non-Muslims over Christmas.
Maintaining ties with non-Muslims by exchanging visits, offering them good wishes and swapping gifts is from the acts of goodness advocated by Islam, it said.
It is evident in Islamic Sharia that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted gifts from non-Muslims, it said.
