CAIRO – 8 April 2017: Violations against orphans need proportionate sanctions, the undersecretary of the Egyptian parliament's Social Solidarity Committee, Mohamed Abu Hamed,

told Youm7

Saturday.

Hamed said penalties for such violations are inadequate and need to be toughened.

He added that revoking the licenses of orphanages is not an appropriate punishment as violations against orphans are child abuse.

Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali asked members of parliament visit foster care homes and report violations and issues to the ministry.

The minister added, in a statement that coincides with the launch of the National Program to Protect Homeless Children, that the ministry deployed teams to locate homeless children to find the best solution for their cases.
