CAIRO – 23 December 2017: Spokesperson of the Alexandria seaport, Reda el Ghandour, said that Alexandria and Dekheila ports were closed Saturday early morning over inclement weather, which caused high wind speed and, subsequently, high waves.
El Ghandour added that the decision to close the seaport was taken to ensure the preservation of people, ships, sidewalks and goods.
Alexandria is located at the west end of the River Nile, between the Mediterranean Sea and Marriot Lake. Approximately 60 percent of Egypt’s foreign trade is handled through the port of Alexandria, according to the General Authority of Alexandria port.
Dekheila port is a natural extension of the Alexandria port; the former offers an easy link to local ways and streets, like desert road Alexandria/Egypt, and railway stations.
