Sisi receives a comprehensive report on security status on Sinai, December 20, 2017 – Egypt Today

CAIRO – 21 December 2017: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Wednesday with Egyptian Defense Minister Sobhi Sedki and Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar, to be briefed on Sinai's security status.

The president’s spokesman, Bassam Radi, stated that during the meeting, Sisi received a report from the defense and interior ministers on the security situation in North Sinai.

The two ministers updated the president on the measures taken by the armed forces and the security services to combat terrorism and guarantee security and stability in the region.

Military Chief of Staff Mohammed Farid and Chief of Military Intelligence Mohamed Farag El Shahat were present in the meeting, which came after the two ministers’ visit to Al-Arish, North Sinai a day earlier. The ministers visited Al-Arish so as to inspect the troops and the security situation there.

Earlier yesterday, a military officer was killed and two others were injured after a missile attack hit Al-Arish Airport, according to the military spokesperson, Tamer al-Refaie.

The attack also partially damaged a military chopper, the statement further read, adding that the attack coincided with the visit of the ministers of interior and defense.

Military officers cordoned the surrounding area for further investigations.
