CAIRO – 17 December 2017: An Egyptian military court freed 236 Ultras White Knights members, a fan group for Zamalek SC, in the case publicly known as the “Borg El-Arab incident”.

In July, police arrested the fans over violent acts carried out in the vicinity of Borg El-Arab Stadium after Zamalek was beaten by Libya’s Al-Ahli SC in the CAF Champions League. Clashes erupted between Zamalek fans and the stadium officials, leading to the injury of seven people.

The Public Prosecution accused the Zamalek fans of damaging Borg El-Arab Stadium and disturbing public peace and security.

In May, the Court of Urgent Matters in Cairo banned the soccer fan associations, known as Ultras, over accusations that such groups are involved in terrorism.
