The policeman, dressed in plainclothes, attacked a citizen who refused to pick him up along the Damietta-Mansoura highway, one of the residents said, adding that the policeman used his firearm to hit the citizen.
The residents called the police and confiscated the firearm in El Sanania village; a group of police forces, headed by Damietta Security Directorate’s chief assistant, arrived in the village and escorted the policeman to Damietta police station.
No complaints were filed against the policeman, a low-ranking officer told Youm7 on Sunday.
The incident comes two days after a Cairo policeman was

Many Egyptian policemen have been handed prison terms for criminal charges. In November 2016, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced a low-ranking police officer to life in prison for killing a street vendor after a brawl over paying for his cup of tea. Another low-ranking police officer was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing a driver in Cairo’s district of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar in April 2016.
