Parliament speaker praises Russia’s rejection of U.S. decision

CAIRO – 13 December 2017: Egypt’s Parliament speaker Ali Abdel Aal praised Russia’s rejection of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s official capital.

During his meeting with the Russian state Duma delegation on Wednesday December 13, Abdel Aal said that Egypt and Russia have agreed on most of the international issues.

Vladimir Shamanov, chairman of the Defense Committee of State Duma and head of the Russian delegation, thanked the Parliament Speaker for the warm reception.

According to earlier statements from the Deputy Chairman of Russian State Duma Committee of Defense affairs, Yuri Shvetkin, the delegation discussed the technical military cooperation and ways to combat terrorism during their meeting with Abdel Aal.

The meeting was attended by Egypt’s parliament speaker Ali Abdel Aal along with parliament members Ahmed Saad Al-Dien, Kamal Amer and Sahar Talaat.

During the meeting, both sides affirmed that the two countries have historical and strong relations in all fields. From his side, Shamanov stressed Egypt’s vital role within the whole region, especially regarding counter terrorism, as he praised the two countries’ mutual relations.

Abdel Aal also received an official invitation by Shamanov to visit the state Duma accompanied by the Egyptian delegation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has visited Egypt on Monday December 13 and President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi welcomed his counterpart with an official ceremony at the Cairo international airport.

During the visit, both leaders agreed on strengthening the exchange of information between both countries on anti-terrorism efforts, especially regarding the issue of terrorists fleeing from one country to another.
