Egypt hosts Red Sea nations’ meeting

CAIRO – 11 December 2017: Egypt hosts senior officials of the Red Sea nations in a conference entitled "security, peace and prosperity of the Red Sea Region" on December 11, 12.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid stated that the conference discusses ways to boost political, security and economic cooperation among countries located along the Red Sea.

According to Abu-Zeid, the conference will also discuss issues including coordinating efforts to face security threats, terrorism, illegal immigration, human trafficking and smuggling operations.

The conference aims to strengthen the sovereignty of the Red Sea nations over their own internal affairs and regional water. In addition, the conference aims to exchange expertise related to legal frameworks to improve investment.

The Red Sea nations include nine countries; Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and the Palestinian territories.
