CAIRO – 12 March 2017: Professor Magdy Yacoub has initially agreed to the establishment of a new center for heart disease in New Aswan with the “newest and best scientific technology in the world,” the Ministry of Immigration said in a Thursday statement.

The center will offer unprecedented opportunities to develop the level of scientific research and medicine in Egypt and other developing countries.

Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram said she has met a number of scientists since the closure of the first national conference for Egyptian scientists and experts abroad, “Egypt Can,” to discuss establishing the National Committee Abroad to connect Egyptian scientists in Egypt and abroad to benefit from their expertise in launching sustainable development plans.

The ministry has been exerting efforts to benefit Egyptian scientists abroad by hosting conferences and meetings with them.

The meetings resulted in selecting Professor Magdy Yacoub to be the honored chairman of the committee. Other committee members were selected from other figures representing Egypt in all fields.

Sir Magdy Yacoub is an Egyptian-British professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and founder and director of research at the Harefield Heart Science Centre (Magdy Yacoub Institute) in Aswan, Upper Egypt.
