CAIRO – 6 December 2017: Elham Sharshar, wife of Mubarak-era Interior Minister Habib al-Adly said that her husband turned himself in.

In an interview with Amr Adib on ONE TV channel, Sharshar said that the Egyptian General Prosecution released a statement that Adly turned himself in.

Adly’s attorney Mohammed al-Gendy further explained that Adly turned himself in after his health condition improved, and he was able to move.

Concerning the reason behind the former minister’s absence, Gendy said in an interview that Adly had received treatment in a private hospital. Knowing that he will be sentenced, his health deteriorated, but once he recovered, he turned himself in.

Gendy added that Adly has serious heart problems and that he had to go through several heart operations.

Sharshar stressed that she is convinced her husband Adly will not be proven guilty in the court trial and she promised further revelations during the pleading.

In 2014, Adly was acquitted, along with six of his aides, on charges of complicity in the killing of protesters during the January 25 Revolution of 2011.
