Building of Egyptian-Japanese Univ. to be completed in 2018

CAIRO – 5 December 2017: Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar confirmed on Monday the keenness of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to complete the Egyptian-Japanese University, which will serve as a model in the education and scientific research fields.

Building the permanent headquarters of the university will be completed at the end of 2018 and will be built on 200 acres at a cost of LE 3 billion ($169 million) in the new city of Borg El Arab, said Abdel Ghaffar during the meeting of the board of trustees of the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology.

The experience of the Egyptian-Japanese University is a culmination of the distinguished relations between Egypt and Japan, added Abdel Ghaffar, referring to his meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Takehiro Kagawa.

Fayza Abul-Naga, chairman of the university’s board of trustees, stressed the importance of boosting the relations between Egypt and Japan in scientific, research and educational fields.

The board reviewed the reports about the master’s and diploma in heritage sciences as the first academic program of its kind in Egypt, in addition to the bachelor's degree in the faculties of engineering and international business administration, which received the first batch of high school students last September.

Dr. Ahmed El-Gohary, president of the Egyptian-Japanese University, presented the achievements of the university during the last period. The most important research projects were funded by international and Egyptian donor institutions.

The number of research articles published in international scientific journals and international conferences reached 1,090 during the past seven years.

The university has registered 12 patents in the fields of robotics and mechatronics engineering, creative design engineering, energy engineering, environment and computer science.
