CAIRO - 12 March 2017: The U.S. Consulate General in Alexandria hosted a celebration on the occasion of opening a new office space at the Helnan Palestine Hotel on Friday, with the attendance of U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft and the General Consular Stephen Fkan and 600 guests, the U.S. Embassy said in a press release.
“The first U.S. Consular Office in Egypt was here in Alexandria in 1835,” said Fkan, according to the statement.
“With the new offices, we benefit from increased engagement with the people of Alexandria and the region,” Ambassador Beecroft said.
The U.S. Ambassador further said that the United States continues to cooperate with the Egyptian people with an aim of advancing education, women's statuses, the economy and entrepreneurship, the statement said.
During the celebration, “U.S. Mission personnel explained educational and exchange programs the Embassy and Consulate offer and Officials from the Embassy’s Regional English Language Office described teacher training opportunities as well as the flagship English Access Microscholarship Program,” the statement said.
“Fulbright Commission staff discussed the prestigious Fulbright academic exchange program, while AMIDEAST provided information about skills-training programs in Alexandria. Education USA representatives spoke about workshops they offer to help Egyptians research, apply for, fund, and attend U.S. colleges and universities,” it added.
