IRA chief, Chinese amb. discuss Azhar counter-terrorism efforts

CAIRO - 3 December 2017: Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy (IRA) Mohie el Din Afifi met on Sunday with Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo.

The meeting tackled prospects of academic cooperation between the two sides and efforts exerted by Al Azhar to spread moderate teachings of Islam.

Afifi said a large number of Chinese students are studying at Al Azhar University, adding that Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb always orders paying due regard to Chinese students and providing them with all needed support.

Song, meanwhile, offered condolences over the victims of the terrorist attack, which targeted a North Sinai mosque on November 24.

He also praised the role played by Al Azhar to face extremist thoughts and spread moderate teachings of Islam.
