CAIRO – 13 March 2017: The head of Libya’s interim government, which is not recognized internationally, arrived in Egypt Monday in a surprise visit. Abdullah al-Thani is in town to rally the international community and the support of neighboring countries for the Arabian Armed Forces, led by Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, in their fight against rebels in the Libyan oil crescent, reported Youm7.

The director of the information office of the Libyan Council of Ministers said in a press statement that Thani went to Egypt to show the reality of the situation in the Oil Crescent, given that Egyptian diplomacy has a vital role on both the Arabian and the international stage as well as being a member in the initiative launched by countries neighboring Libya.

The statement said that during his meeting with U.N. experts in Cairo Thani also sought to lift the arms embargo imposed on the Libyan army so it can continue its fight against terrorists.

The U.N. experts are expected to submit a report about the meeting to the U.N. Security Council to consider the details of the situation in Libya, according to a statement from the Libyan information office.
