CAIRO – 2 December 2017: Egypt’s Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayyeb, Mufti Shawki Allam and the Minister of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa visited al-Rawdah’s terrorist attack victims at the hospital in Ismailia governorate on Friday.
This visit comes a week after the terrorist attack which hit Al-Rawdah mosque in Arish City, North Sinai, on Friday November 24, leaving at least 311 dead.

El-Tayyeb, Allam and Gomaa performed Friday prayers at Al-Rawda Mosque in Bir el-Abed in North Sinai one week after the terrorist attack.
The Grand Imam stressed the need to fight those who seek corruption in the country, calling on the residents of Bir el-Abed to stand with the state in its fight against crime and terrorism.

Egypt declared a three-day mourning period following the bloody attack that targeted Al-Rawdah mosque during Friday prayer on November 24. The Deputy of the Endowments Ministry in North Sinai, Mohamed Al-Aesh, affirmed that the ministry completed the restoration of Al-Rawdah mosque after it was damaged in the incident.
On November 25, the Attorney General issued a statement, saying that a notification was received from the North Sinai Security Directorate that the worshipers during Friday prayers encountered around 25 to 30 armed terrorists standing in front of the Al-Rawdah Mosque doors and opened fire on them, after detonating a bomb.

The terrorists arrived in five SUVs and set fire to seven cars that belonged to the worshipers.

"A group of prosecutors headed to Ismailia General Hospital, where the victims of the terror attack have been receiving treatment to question them. The terrorist elements were dressed in military uniforms, wearing faded trousers and black T-shirts," the victims said.
