CAIRO – 1 December 2017: Cairo University terminated five professors from the university's staff on Friday, for belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood group, according to press statement.
The statement named Bakinam El Sharkawy, from Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Rashad Bayomi, from Faculty of Science, Essam Elden Hashish, from Faculty of Engineering, Ahmed Zohairy, Faculty of Agriculture and Abdelrahman Shabrawy from Faculty of Pharmacy.
The professors were terminated for no longer meeting the legal conditions to work at the university which states that professors should have a good reputation to hold public positions. The decision was taken based on 2015's Law No.8, Organizing Lists of Terrorist Entities and Terrorists.
A high profile official, speaking under the condition of anonymity, told Egypt Today that Cairo University has also terminated the political activist and assistant professor Amr Hamzawy, for his absence from his work at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science.
