Cairo Court adjourns the retrial of MB supreme guide

CAIRO – 5 March 2017: The Cairo Criminal Court adjourned Sunday the retrial of Mohammed Badie, the Supreme Guide of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, on charges of violence and inciting clashes following the toppling of Former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The court, headed by Judge Hussein Kandil, will resume on March 30 to listen to witness testimony in what it is known as ‘Al-Bahr Al-Azam’ case against Badie and 13 other Brotherhood leaders,

The Brotherhood leaders are accused of incitement to commit crimes and participating in the violent attacks that took place in Al-Bahr Al-Azam district in Giza in 2013.

The defendants were sentenced to

life in Jail

in 2014 but the verdict was revoked by the Court of Cassation.

Badie was handed down a death sentence in 2015 on charges of planning attacks against the state,

according to BBC.

Previous death sentences against Badie in other cases had been reduced to imprisonment.

The Muslim Brotherhood was officially banned as a terrorist organization in Egypt in 2013.
