CAIRO – 29 November 2017: Egypt confirmed on Wednesday, on the anniversary of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, that it has long defended the rights of Palestinians and their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The General Assembly marks November 29 of every year as an international day to express solidarity with Palestine and stress its legitimate rights.

Egypt referred that efforts should be exerted to resume the peace process between Palestine and Israel to ensure Palestinians’ rights to establish their own land, according to the statement of the Foreign Ministry.

Egypt has stood steady in different international and regional events defending the Palestinian cause and believing that existing peace is the only solution for achieving stability, prosperity and security for peoples in the Middle East, mentioned the statement.

Egypt has cared for eliminating all causes of the division between the Palestinians parties.

“The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a global call that confirms Palestinians’ legitimate rights for establishing their own state,” tweeted Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.

In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of November 29 as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. On that day in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine.

As part of the observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29, an annual exhibit is organized on Palestinian rights or a cultural event in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the UN.

Despite a number of attempts to reconcile the Palestinian split led by international and Arab efforts, only Egypt, with its historical and political position, was able to bring an end to this nightmare. Egypt managed to bring the conflicting Palestinian factions together to overcome their differences, creating new conditions away from the fear of exclusion.

Egypt helped the factions realize that they need to move forward toward a partnership based on the fact that Palestine is for all Palestinians.
