France, Italy, Spain endorse Egypt’s war on terrorism

CAIRO – 28 November 2017: World politicians have condemned the terrorist attack at Al-Rawdah Mosque, North Sinai, which left over 305 people dead and dozens wounded after nearly 25 militants showered worshippers with fire during Friday prayers.

France, Italy and Spain stressed their support for Egypt's war against terrorism. Egypt Today highlights the reactions by these three European countries in the following lines.

French Senator and Vice-Chair of the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee Nathalie Goulet condemned the terror attack at Al-Rawdah Mosque that occurred last Friday.

Goulet, who visited Egypt in the past year, spoke to Egypt Today and stressed, “Egypt and France are on the same side fighting terrorism.”

Vice President of the Italian Senate Maurizio Gasparri asserted that Egypt is paying the price for combating terrorism on behalf of other countries, according to Italian news agency NINA on Tuesday.

Gasparri said that Egypt must be supported by all global parties, adding that the Cairo-Roma crisis over the killing of Italian student Giulio Regeni should not welcome “demagogue campaigns,” according to his statements.

Italian Ambassador to Egypt Giampaolo Cantini visited Egyptian Speaker Ali Abdel Aal on Sunday, two days after the Rawdah massacre, to discuss boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.

Early Friday, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni voiced his "horror" at the Al-Rawdah Mosque terror attack. Gentiloni said later that "it was not only a terror attack, but also a spine-chilling massacre. Our thoughts go out to that community.”

Western countries should cooperate with Egypt and other Arab countries in their anti-terrorism campaign, said a news report published on Spain’s COPE website on Tuesday.

According to the COPE report, Egypt’s security is “very important to ensure the security of Europe,” adding that “intelligence collaboration between Egypt and Europeans is a must to the entire region.”

Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has played a leading role in resuming Egypt's effective role in the Middle East, in addition to Sisi’s role in resuming military cooperation with the United States and the pivotal role played by Egypt in resolving the Libyan crisis, the report added.

Egypt's role in controlling illegal migration to Europe is important to the security of Europe, the report stated.
