CAIRO - 25 November 2017: President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi received a telephone call from his Cypriot counterpart, Nicos Anastasiades, who offered his sincere condolences for the victims of the abhorrent terrorist attack in Northern Sinai, said presidential spokesperson Bassem Rady in a statement Saturday.
During the call, the Cypriot president stressed that his country stands beside Egypt and its full solidarity with the Egyptian people in these painful circumstances. He also pointed out the important role that Egypt plays in the war on terrorism, which represents a great danger to the region and the world.
For his part, Sisi expressed his appreciation to the Cypriot President Anastasiades, noting the strong relations that the two countries share.
A group of 15 armed terrorists broke into Al-Rawdah Mosque in Al-Arish City, leaving at least 235 dead and 125 injured. According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists came out initially riding two all-terrain vehicles, which they left 150 meters away from the crime scene. They detonated a bomb outside the mosque and then opened fire at panicked prayers.
