CAIRO – 23 November 2017: The meeting of the Palestinian factions in Cairo upon Egyptian invitation is considered a great development of the Egypt-brokered reconciliation agreement that was reached in October, secretary of House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee, Tarek el-Kholy stated on Thursday.

“The Palestinian factions’ meeting is ‘a coronation’ to Egypt’s efforts during the last months. It disperses attempts of some regional and international parties to hinder reaching a Palestinian reconciliation,” Kholy added. He pointed out that there are some parties who benefit from the continuous Palestinian clashes.

Kholy stated that Egypt managed to miraculously end the Palestinian conflicts that lasted more than 10 years between its main fictions, while all observers predicted that it is impossible to end the Palestinian divisions, “Egypt was able to achieve the impossible.”

“This reconciliation brought Egypt back to playing the key role among Arab countries and proved Egypt’s ability to achieve a new success in the Palestinian crisis,” Kholy said.

The Palestinian factions met in Cairo on November 21, 22 upon Egyptian invitation to resume talks between Fatah and Hamas in order to find a common ground for implementing the next step of the Egypt-brokered reconciliation agreement that was reached in October.

The meeting discussed various aspects of the Palestinian situation including deepening and boosting national unity. They also discussed the threats that face Palestine in light of an escalated Israeli aggression against Palestinian authorities and people.

Key participants at the meeting showed much appreciation to Egypt, under the leadership of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, for playing a significant role to achieve independence and stability for Palestine and end schism in the Palestinian scene.

Participants also affirmed the importance of the Palestinian unity to support Palestinians’ claim for an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital after it was occupied in 1967, and the return of Palestinian refugees who were displaced following the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194 of December 1948.
