Abul Gheit participates in UN Economic and Social Commission meeting

CAIRO - 20 Nov 2017: The Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit took part in the 23rd meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

He met with the Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Parliament's Speaker Nabih Berri, said the spokesman of AL secretary general Mahmoud Affifi.

During his speech at the inaugural session of the meeting, Abul Gheit said that the developmental process in the Arab world witnesses various challenges related with the extraordinary conditions of the region nowadays especially in light of the armed conflicts in several Arab countries over the past years, said the spokesman in a press release.

Such conflicts inflicted the Arab world heavy economic losses where poverty rates have increased which entail real reforms in the developmental and economic field, he reiterated.
