CAIRO – 18 November 2017: Former Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa stated in a meeting of Al-Wafd Party on Saturday that he will not run in the upcoming presidential election.
The marathon of the Egyptian presidential election will run from February until May 2018.
Moussa hailed Egypt’s role in the Palestinian reconciliation, expressing that he was supporting negotiations with Israel to settle the Palestinian case. He added that some powers seek to keep conflict in the region.
“We should all help the government in the issue of the Renaissance Dam by following the set policies in dealing with the Nile and agriculture, and allow the state to practice all possible options without interference,” added Mussa.
He pointed out that the Arab League stood against the NATO strike on Libya and this is recorded in the resolutions of the Security Council, although there are Arab countries that supported the strike.
The Arab League is set to hold an extraordinary meeting on Sunday at the request of Saudi Arabia to discuss "violations" committed by Iran in the region, Extra News channel revealed.
Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates approved the Saudi request, which was also approved by Djibouti, the current chair of the pan-Arab bloc, according to a memorandum seen by AFP on Sunday.
Tensions have been rising between Saudi Arabia and Iran in recent months, particularly due to the issues of Lebanon and Qatar.
