CAIRO – 17 November 2017: Egyptian authorities declared, in a press statement, opening Rafah Crossing for three days, starting from Saturday, in both directions, to allow the passage of stuck travelers.
The crossing will be opened within the framework of the efforts made by Egyptian leadership headed by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to ease the burden on Palestinians, according to the statement.
Palestinian Minister for Public Works and Housing Mofeed Al-Hasayneh delivered a speech during a press conference at the Rafah Border, the sole crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, announcing reception of the crossing, within the framework of the reconciliation deal reached in Cairo last month.
In October, the rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo under Egypt’s auspices. The Palestinian National Authority is due to resume control of the Gaza Strip by December 1, as per the reconciliation agreement.
