CAIRO – 15 November 2017: Zambian President Edgar Lungu and several high-ranking delegates visited the new Suez Canal Axis on Wednesday during the second day of an official visit to Egypt.

Head of the Suez Canal Authority, Mohab Mamish, welcomed the delegate and congratulated the Zambian president on his first visit to the canal. Mamish also stressed on the importance of Egyptian-Zambian relations and bilateral collaboration in the trade and investment fields.

Lungu’s visit included checking the fish farming project affiliated with the canal, along with a tour to track the vessel traffic to know more about the canal’s navigation system.
Lungu praised Egypt’s new developing projects. He added that these projects attracted several investors from all over the world, which will positively affect the country and, in time, turn Egypt into one of the most active trade zones in the world.

The Zambian president arrived to Egypt on Tuesday morning in his first official visit. He met with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and held a press conference. Sisi and his Zambian counterpart delivered speeches summarizing the talks and agreements that took place during the latter’s visit to Cairo.

Sisi said that he met with the Zambian president several times on the sidelines of African summit conferences and expressed his happiness with Lungu’s visit to Cairo. “Our talks today focused on trade and economic relations with the aim of boosting joint projects in different economic sectors, especially that the activity of Egyptian companies working in electricity, construction, and telecommunication sectors in Zambia has increased,” the president stated.

Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s eagerness to provide professional training for Zambian citizens in multiple fields. He added that both countries cooperate to achieve peace and stability in the continent, as well as accomplishing the African Union 2063 Agenda aiming to promote socio-economic development across the continent.
