CAIRO – 15 November 2017: The Court of Appeal rejected Wednesday the appeal made by the former General Guide of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Mohammed Badie, and 55 other MB members against the life imprisonment and death sentences issued, in the case publicly known as “the events of Ismailia”.
Ismailia Criminal Court sentenced Badie and 35 others in May 2016 to life in prison and 9 others to 15-year rigorous imprisonment and 20 others to 10 years in prison,as well as, ruled 20 people to three years in prison, and acquitted 20 others in the same case.
On July 5, 2013, Muslim Brotherhood members held a sit-in in Ismailia governorate which led the government to use force in dispersing them; resulting in three dead and dozens injured.
The defendants were accused of planning for the mob and endangering citizens, in addition to assaulting people and public properties, murdering and hindering public authority officers from performing their duties.
