CAIRO – 13 November 2017: On November 13, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and the U.S. Consulate General in Alexandria launched the Global Entrepreneurship week (GEW). During the GEW, young people discussed topics of their interest, including skills for career success, marketing for entrepreneurs, market technologies, and entrepreneurship simulation.

The events in Egypt include talks, workshops and lectures by prominent business figures and entrepreneurs at the main U.S. Embassy premises, the American Center Cairo (ACC), the American Corner in Maadi (ACM) and in three cities in Upper Egypt: Qena, Luxor, and Aswan.

“In the past five years, hundreds of startups and youth initiatives have launched all over Egypt—some receiving worldwide recognition. The U.S. government is committed to supporting this spirit of innovation by helping entrepreneurs hone the skills they need to be successful,” said Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Goldberger, according to a press release by the U.S. Embassy.

The U.S. government works closely with the Egyptian government to promote entrepreneurship, stimulate opportunities for growth and increase global prosperity.
In addition, the embassy fosters entrepreneurship through Egyptian and U.S.-based exchange programs, working closely with partners in both countries to advance organizations and initiatives that encourage a culture of entrepreneurship and small-business development to strengthen the Egyptian economy. The embassy also sponsors numerous job fairs throughout the country, the RiseUp and Techne summits, as well as mentorship programs.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) has been held annually since 2007 and includes more than 35,000 events and activities aiming to inspire youth to become entrepreneurs in 165 countries. The GEW also offers youth the opportunity to connect with other young men and women from around the world for potential collaboration and mentoring.

The event is powered by Kauffman Foundation, and is hosting events and activities that help innovative youth to achieve their full potential.
