Incapable women get ID cards through “Your card … Your rights” project

CAIRO –9 November 2017: Every Egyptian woman in the society should hold a national ID as one of her simplest rights. That’s why the National Women's Council launched “Your Card … Your Rights” project, which helps incapable women to extract their national ID cards through a few steps.

First, the woman should head to the nearest branch of the National Women’s Council to submit her data (name, birth certificate, mother’s name).

The branch will then send the names to the council’s headquarters, where the women’s names will be passed to the Civil Affairs Department to carry out the necessary investigations.

After the investigations are done, the list of names will be sent back to the branch again.

The branch of the Council along with the branch of the Civil Affairs Department within the governorate will set up a mission for photo shooting the women, where both branches will move to the designated location for photo-shooting.

The branch is responsible for supporting women in completing the form, which is free of charge.

And finally after the photos are taken, cards are extracted and delivered by the branch to the women.

The chairwoman of the National Women’s Council, Maya Morsi, stressed on how President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi affirmed in all his speeches that Egyptian women are the valve of Egypt, and how the woman is a source of security, both internally and externally.

While the spokesman of Ministry of Administrative Development, Samy Ibrahim said that the national IDs are just the beginning, but the project aims to help women get their rights. Those include voting in elections; obtaining pensions, health and educational services; and getting loans to start small businesses.
