CAIRO – 8 November 2017: November 2017: President of the National Council of Women (NCW) Maya Morsy described the scene of General Adel Ragae’s widow, who called on UN organizations to stand with Egypt in its war against terrorism, as one of the WYF’s most touching moments.
In a session on woman’s enhancement in decision-making processes, which was attended by the UN representative at Sharm el-Sheikh-hosted World Youth Forum (WYF), widow, Samia, directed her comments to the UN, saying “As an ex-wife of a martyr who was killed in front of my eyes…I am asking whether the United Nations will stand with our country in combating terrorism? Will the United Nations stand with bereaved women who lost their sons and fathers to terrorism?”
Responding to terrorism-victim’s widow, Samia, the UN female representative partaking in the forum contended that the UN stands firmly with Egyptian women in the face of terrorism. The UN bodies stand with them in decision-making circles so that women could help rebuff extremism and violence, the representative added.
Ragae was one of the police officers who partook in counter-terrorism operations and crackdown on terrorists. He was killed by a militant in front of his building in Obour City last year.
The WNC Chairperson further said that the problems facing the implementation of women’s participation in decision-making processes are global issues, pointing out that the world has only nine female heads of state and 14 prime ministers.
"Egypt has a clear strategy now to empower women in decision-making positions, and this has been announced in many international forums. We have a political will to empower women, and President Sisi comes at the forefront,” Morsy added.
The WYF invites and brings together 3,000 young people represented by 60 delegations from across the world, in an effort to explore key issues facing young people and determine their role in implementing global development goals and combating terrorism.
