CAIRO – 2 November 2017: EgyptAir launched five direct flights between Egypt and Kuwait on Wednesday to facilitate the return of Egyptian workers to their homeland from Doha.

In its bid to resolve the current diplomatic rift between the Gulf nations and Doha, Kuwait acts as a mediator between the two sides. Along with Oman, Kuwait has taken a neutral position in the dispute.

On June 5, a number of Gulf States, along with Egypt, announced the severing of diplomatic relations with the Gulf state of Qatar over its support of terrorism and closely siding with the extremist government of Iran.

According to an official source at EgyptAir, as many as three direct Cairo-bound flights were launched by EgyptAir from Kuwait, in addition to one flight from Beirut and another one from Amman.

Facilitating the return of the deported workers through Kuwait, EgyptAir decided to operate additional flights to Kuwait after the suspension of Cairo-Doha flights as part of a complete boycott, which has been imposed on the tiny emirate for several months.

Also, the chairman of Doha-based Egyptian Labor representation office at the Ministry of Manpower visited on Thursday the site of the Egyptian workers in the Qatari company for infrastructure works in the industrial zone, checking on their conditions and ensuring that they are treated well and given their financial rights, as per directions issued from the Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan.
