CAIRO – 2 November 2017: Egypt Today briefs top European newspapers on Thursday for political and social issues.

Cairo seeks to ease humanitarian burden on Palestinians: amb.

Egyptian Ambassador to Palestine Sami Murad said Wednesday that Cairo seeks to alleviate the humanitarian burden on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, especially for humanitarian cases and students.

In an interview with Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA), he praised Egypt’s efforts to restore Palestine to the normal situation in light of the joint efforts to end the division, stressing the necessity of supporting reconciliation in favor of the Palestinian national project.

Murad asserted that the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the World Youth Forum (WYF) is also considered important, as “it provides more momentum to the next phase.”

He stated that Abbas’s participation in the WYF, which will launch in Sharm El-Sheikh on November 4, came to assure that Egyptian leaders are keen on enhancing the relationship between the two countries.

Putin holds talks with Iranian, Azerbaijani counterparts

Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks Wednesday with Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents Hassan Rouhani and Ilham Aliyev on trilateral talks in Tehran, Sputnik news agency reported.

The three countries seek to boost high-level cooperation on global energy market platforms and widely expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

"The parties pointed out the key role of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the sustained functioning of regional and global energy markets, supporting the expansion of cooperation in oil and gas as well as petrochemical sectors, including in the area of exploration and development of oil and gas fields, transport and swap deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products, as well as deepening cooperation on the international platforms," MENA reported.

Japanese parliament re-elects Abe after election landslide

Japan's parliament on Wednesday formally re-elected Shinzo Abe as prime minister after his party's overwhelming election victory, setting Abe on track to be the country's longest-serving premier.

Members of Parliament voted by a huge majority to re-install Abe, after his conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) got a two-thirds "super majority" on October 22.

The nuclear-armed North Korea and a shrinking birth rate had come as Abe's top priorities during his election campaign.

In the 465-seat lower house, Abe won 312 votes from the conservative ruling bloc.
In the 242-seat upper house, Abe won a majority vote of 151 votes, establishing him again in the top Japanese political post, AFP reported.
