CAIRO - 1 November 2017: Erez (Bait Hanon) Crossing, in the North Gaza Strip, was evacuated to be handed to the Palestinian National Reconciliation Government on Wednesday.
According to Palestinian media outlets, Gaza’s former authority used to oversee the crossing before conducting the Fatah and Hamas reconciliation under Egypt's sponsorship.
However, after the reconciliation agreement that was signed in Cairo October 12, all borders in the Gaza Strip will be handed to the government including Erez, Rafah and Kerem Shalom.

On September 17, Hamas’ movement announced the dissolution of the administrative committee in the Gaza Strip, inviting the Government of National Reconciliation to assume its duties and hold general elections. The movement affirmed it would comply with the Social Reconciliation Accord signed in 2011.
Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that there is no country as vital to the Palestinian cause as Egypt due to its historical and political position in the region. “Egypt has an opinion, a position and an interest in the Palestinian cause,” said Abbas.
