CAIRO – 31 October 2017: The Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA) kept a record of 344 public employees on terror lists as part of a campaign to dismiss employees convicted of terrorism from service, chairperson Mohamed Gamil told Egypt Today.

Gamil explained on Tuesday that the agency contacted the Public Prosecutor to obtain the list. The names were verified by the Civil Registry, and then sent to the National Security Agency (NSA) to conduct investigations.

The chairperson added that most of the convicts work at public universities and that if any of them is proven innocent later, they can resume their occupations.

CAOA has been curating a database of employees at the state’s administrative body who were convicted by court of committing terror crimes or joining terrorist groups so that they could be dismissed.

Gamil said in August that Law 8/2015 on terror lists stipulates that people designated as terrorists by a court ruling lose the good reputation necessary to hold governmental and parliamentary posts.
