The hut made by teacher Mariam Gomaa to promote literacy among unprivileged children in North Sinai – Mohamed Hussein
CAIRO – 28 October 2017: Mariam Gomaa, a teacher, built a hut to serve as a school in North Sinai to teach little children who do not attend school how to read and write. The school is located in a remote area called Madbaa.
Gomaa had called for the education minister and the governor to visit the place and help turn it into an equipped school. Governor Abdel Fatah Harhour responded and assigned an NGO to construct a one-room school to educate the children of that tiny population.

The NGO representative, Moussa Rowaished, told Egypt Today that the work started on Saturday with a mortar foundation for a metal kiosk with a capacity of 30 students. It will contain a seat for the teacher, desks, fans, a board and toilets. In addition, a water well is being dug to serve the students and the area’s residents.

Rowaished said that his NGO would support the project until it turns into a school, adding that it executed a similar one in Shalatein. The school is located in a desert area stretching along five kilometers, where poor people live in huts along with palm trees.
