Brazil's Congress rejects corruption case against ex-President Temer

Brazilian Congress lawmakers rejected on Wednesday the corruption case against the Brazilian center-right President Michel Temer before the Supreme Court. The president needed 172 votes to be absolved from the trial, and managed to obtain the necessary votes.

The Brazilian Congressmen rejected to try Temer against “negative corruption” charges in June 2017.

The corruption case, involving the payment of bribes by meatpacker JBS SA, had paralyzed Temer's reform agenda for six months and weakened his government, Reuters reported.

Dozens killed and injured at Indonesia fireworks factory blast

Two blasts at a fireworks factory in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, killed as many as 47 people and injured dozens on Thursday, police said. Even though unidentified yet, the number of casualties is expected to rise further.

Witnesses said there were two blasts, one at about 10 a.m. (0300 GMT) and another about three hours later, Reuters cited media reports.

"There were 103 labors working in the factory in total, 43 of them have been injured and are being now treated in three hospitals, while the bodies of 23 victims have been found," Jakarta police department director Niko Aventa told media.

Kenyans vote at the presidential election amid opposition boycott

Kenyans began voting Thursday in a re-election amid weak turnout due to opposition boycotts, as the country's Supreme Court nullified the election results in August that resulted in the victory of President Ohoro Kenyatta.

However, the opposition leader withdrew his candidacy for the elections and called for boycotting; considering that the vote will restrict freedom and integrity.
