CAIRO – 25 October 2017: Minister of Health Ahmed Emad said in a press conference at the Council of Ministers that the cost of the new health insurance system starts from LE 1,300 – 4,000 ($74 – $227) per citizen.
He clarified that those who are unable to pay will be identified by a committee formed by the ministries of finance and social solidarity to be excluded from the fees; confirming that anyone who has an Egyptian nationality will be covered by the health insurance system.
The minister announced that Port Said will be one of the first governorates in which the new health insurance system will be applied, starting from 2018 gradually until 2032.
The new health insurance system starts at LE 1,300 per citizen, when it used to start at LE 112 in the old system.
