DAMASCUS – 24 October 2017: The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Tuesday that about 14 people were killed in an explosion caused by landmine planted by Daesh in Raqqa.

A spokesman for the group was cited by Russia Today TV as saying that they included nine civilians who were killed last week.

The city was closed by the forces to clean it from mines planted by the terrorist groups before their defeat, the spokesman said.

The demining process would take days before opening the city for inhabitants who fled from violence, according to the spokesman.

Raqqa, which has served as the Syrian stronghold of terrorist group Daesh since January 2014, was seized by the US-backed group Syrian Democratic Forces earlier this week. Most residential buildings in the city are believed to have been rendered uninhabitable during the fighting.
