Al-Azhar University standing moment of silence for martyrs-File Photo
CAIRO – 22 October 2017: Al-Azhar University expresses its solidarity with the police officers and army personnel martyred by standing in silence on Sunday.
Through a pause of silence, Al-Azhar expresses its solidarity “to every person defending our nation against the black vicious terrorism that divides us” and hopes “to stand shoulder to shoulder against terrorism and extremism,” said President of Al-Azhar University Mohamed Hussein El-Mahrsawy.
The hashtag “we are all with the police” is the most trending on social media platforms; expressing solidarity with the police after the Giza clashes.
This has coincided with the campaign launched by the actor Asser Yassin on Twitter. He began calling his followers to express their condolences and solidarity with the martyrs by posting his photo while saluting the martyrs.
Seventeen security personnel were killed and 15 others were injured during a raid on a militant hideout near the Giza-Al Wahat Road in the Giza governorate. According to security sources, the police forces are still deployed around the area to observe terrorist elements. The desert road was closed from both directions with a number of checkpoints planted there to besiege any fleeing terrorists.
