PM Ismail to clarify presidential order at parliament

CAIRO – 22 October 2017: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail will deliver on Sunday a statement during the parliament's general assembly; clarifying President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s decision to extend the emergency state earlier this month.

The presidential order no. 510/2017 consisted of extending the emergency state for three months starting Friday, October 13, in light of the dangerous circumstances that the country is going through after consulting with the cabinet.

That is the second time the state of emergency is extended as the first was in July 2017. It was first imposed after the Palm Sunday attacks over a church in Tanta and the Alexandria Cathedral in April. The twin suicide bombings incurred the death of 47 civilians and policemen.
