CAIRO – 20 October 2017: Yuri P. Pokholkov, vice president of Tomsk Russian University declared the first batch of specialists to graduate from the Egyptian-Russian University will be in 2020.
According to the Russian Newspaper NAS, this declaration was made by Pokholkov during the youth and students festival which was held in Sochi; Russia. Pokholkov added that the students will work at the Egyptian Nuclear Station 'Dabaa' after graduation.
Out of Egyptian-Russian endeavors of joint cooperation to promote Education, a protocol was signed in Moscow in 2006 between the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This initiative was crowned by establishing the Egyptian-Russian University which came as a sign of fruitful cooperation.
ERU was inaugurated in 2006 in Badr City, Cairo. The curriculum of this private university is the outcome of academic and scientific cooperation with a number of Russian universities.
The vice president of Tomsk University pointed out that a group of 20 students are currently resuming their education at ERU. According to a set schedule, the students are slated to travel to the Russian city of Tomsk to proceed with their academic studies at Tomsk University until they graduate in 2020.
"It takes around five years of hard work for the Egyptian students to be fully trained and well informed of the Nuclear power plant's design, operation, and engineering system," Pokholkov said.
Tomsk University ranks as one of the oldest universities in Russia. It is known to be a main provider of human resources and specialists who work in the Russian nuclear industry. Tomsk University has an on-site nuclear reactor where students can freely conduct their research and have comprehensive training.
El Dabaa nuclear power plant is the first nuclear power plant planned for Egypt and will be located at El Dabaa, Matrouh governorate, Egypt, which is about 130 kilometers northwest of Cairo.
The nuclear power plant, to be developed by Russian state-owned Corporation Rosatom for Atomic Energy, will consist of four units generating 1200 MW. Egypt hopes that the launch of the first nuclear power plant will take place in 2020.
