CAIRO – 16 October 2017: The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has condemned the recent terrorist attacks on security forces, police, and civilians in Sinai Peninsula and elsewhere in Egypt in a statement released Monday.

“These attacks once again demonstrate the depravity of the terrorists, in stark contrast to officers and civilians who are giving their lives to serve and protect fellow citizens,” the statement read.

The Embassy also expressed condolences for those killed and injured by these recent attacks.

“The United States stands firmly with Egypt, and will continue to stand with Egypt and the Egyptian government and people as they battle terrorism,” the statement added.

On Sunday, six army troops were killed during a terrorist attack in North Sinai.

The army spokesperson Tamer El-Refai said in statement that the armed forces foiled the terrorist’s attack to target al-Qawadis check point, with 24 militants were killed and one injured.

On Monday, the Interior Ministry said in statement that a number of terrorist elements targeted security check points near al-Arish police station as police forces clashed with them. Meanwhile, another group of terrorists stormed al-Arish National Bank branch in the same district near the police station.

Three police officers were killed due to the terrorist attacks, along with one of the bank security members and a civilian woman. Other civilians near the terrorist attacks were reported to be injured.
