CAIRO – 12 October 2017: Nile Basin Initiative Council of Ministers holds its meeting Thursday in Entebbe, Uganda, to discuss principal plans, reports and recent challenges.
During the meeting, the council will discuss several mutual goals, mainly including increasing hydroelectric power, improving food security, management of the basin trans-boundary water, restoring water-related ecosystems, and improving the ability of the basin to face climate change.
The council will also review the secretariat five-year program that would put the annual plan and the budget for the financial year 2017/2018 into operation.
The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) is a partnership established in 1999 among 10 Nile Basin countries, namely Egypt, Ethiopia, North Sudan, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda.
