CAIRO – 11 October 2017: Palestinian Hamas and Fatah factions hold on Wednesday the second session of their national dialogue in Cairo under the auspices of the Egyptian government, to realize the long-awaited Palestinian national unity.

Both factions expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Egyptian efforts for ending the 10-year dispute inside the Palestinian political theatre, according to statements issued by Hamas and Fatah on Tuesday.

The statements said that steps were taken to enhance national Palestinian dialogue, such as dissolving the administration running the Gaza Strip to be replaced by the Palestinian National Authority under the leadership of Rami Hamadallah.

The first session’s talks touched deeply on several files linked to Palestinian reconciliation, according to Hamas and Fatah’s statements, which pledged to resume the discussions on Wednesday with the same optimistic spirit.

For his part, Haniyeh expressed in a statement his gratitude to Egypt for its sponsorship, indicating his satisfaction with the atmosphere of national reconciliation, democracy, and political pluralism.

Haniyeh also thanked Egyptian officials for their efforts in solving the Palestinian issues and reaching national reconciliation. Palestine has also vowed to ensure Egypt’s security and stability.
